About
Our Parish Priest
REV. BRIAN MURDOCH, Priest in Residence at Emmanuel Church
Father Brian Murdoch went to Boston College on a football scholarship and earned a degree in teaching. Continuing his theological formation, he attended several schools in the Boston Theological Institute. He then went on to Union Seminary in NYC, and the General Theological Seminary, where he graduated after studying under Desmond Tutu, then the Bishop of South Africa. Father Brian is also a community college adjunct professor of Sociology. His primary job as our parish priest is to be a wise catalyst, calling forth a reconstituted church and priestly people.
Last summer, Father Brian was interviewed by both The Boston Globe and WBUR Public Radio on the dissension in the Episcopal Church. One respondee emailed in to say, "He has moved me more than going to church has in years. How special he seems. Thank you for bringing forth over the airwaves such a loving, human treasure." Father Brian resides in Roxbury, MA, where he engages in prison ministry—the Malcolm-Garrison-King House—a residence for ex-offenders. He is the proud owner of a boxer dog named Lady Jazz.
